Job Description Summary

The director initiates, negotiates, and executes contracts and agreements with pharmaceutical manufacturers using an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment. Works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial. Will drive strategic initiatives with the pharmaceutical manufacturers and ensure that the alignment of departmental objectives is congruent with the overall contracting and business strategy. Responsible for coordinating clinical analysis and research activities across stakeholder groups related to the implementation and ongoing maintenance of formulary and utilization management programs. Key strategist responsible for supporting supply chain efforts end-to-end.

Job Description

  • Coordinates internal resources to develop Centers for Clinical Excellence by disease state based on population health management best practices.

  • Works strategically with external manufacturers to create joint go-to-market communication and education materials for patients and physicians relative to biosimilars coming to market.

  • Develops improved business requirements gathering for data agreements with manufacturers to deepen relationships by delivering on-time and accurate reporting that is cost-effective with market pricing for the level of effort.

  • Establishes routine meetings with manufacturers and begins creating a key accounts type management structure based on drug utilization patterns to report quarterly/annual performance (e.g., on-time delivery, adherence rates, call metrics, etc.).

  • Monitors drug trend pipelines (newcomers, expiring, generic launches, new therapies) and communicates organizational level impact, recommended strategy, etc.

  • Positions the growing and evolving value proposition of the Specialty Pharmacy for manufacturers and educates sales teams on positioning for finalist presentations.

  • Creates new physician marketing strategies on Specialty Pharmacy capabilities.

  • Attends industry conferences and coordinate meetings and presentations as necessary for delegation of attendees.

  • Holds direct account responsibilities for manufacturers and plays a large role in maintaining and growing manufacturer relationships.

  • Develops manufacturer strategy and account relationship management.

  • Drives complex contract negotiations and successful completion of contracts, primarily focused on the management of pharmacy budgets related to manufacturers.

  • Applies economic and strategic planning models to all endeavors in order to align business, process, and operational principles with area-specific goals.

  • Analyzes financial impact of contracts and terms.

  • Maintains contracts and documentation within a tracking system.

  • Assists with identifying and recruiting providers based on network composition and needs.

  • Provides consultation in organizational contracting methodologies and reimbursement methodologies, reimbursement coding, and network configurations and analysis for provider databases to internal, vendor and customer claims systems.

  • Monitors and reports key metrics of department performance for productivity and quality, as appropriate.

  • Maintains and meets productivity and performance standards for all activities for successful program execution.

  • Assures the establishment and application of a systematic model for the preparation of network administration, privileging and provider loads.

  • Evaluates productivity and performance reports and data for the purposes of reporting, providing employee feedback and determining changes necessary to improve performance.

  • Ensures process changes are developed when necessary, training is provided, processes are implemented and results support department success.

  • Supports opportunities for new clinical products for the expansion and maximization of revenue growth.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of leadership/management experience

  • 7+ years of pharmacy experience

  • Knowledge of managed health care, health care trends, including reimbursement and coding and network management/ administration.

  • Experience in healthcare and/or business experience with direct National and Multi-regional provider contracting experience in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a trade role within a specialty pharmacy

  • 5+ years of experience working on the manufacturer side in a role related to specialty pharmacy (i.e. account management)

  • 5+ years of experience in contract negotiations and language review

  • Good understanding of fair market value

  • Presentation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at once

  • Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Ability to be a team player

Potential pay for this position ranges from $122,630.00 – $208,450.00 based on experience and skills. Pay range may vary by 8% depending on applicant location.
