Head of Production, Method Studios VFX

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Head of Production will provide strategic direction on the operations of the department, leadership, strategic planning, and be responsible for the overall operations of Method VFX in Los Angeles
  • You will search for new technology applications, and innovative solutions pertaining to VFX and File Based workflow, as well as work with client groups and other creative facilities.
  • Additionally you will coordinate with Senior Management in the development and implementation of the organization’s goals and objectives, as well to ensure that technologies are being fully leveraged across the enterprise for optimal effectiveness and value.
  • You will provide streamlined workflows for producers to follow with consistent project archival and organization of schedules, bids, EFC reporting, project wrap, etc.

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Management of VFX Production Dept including all production staff. Includes performance evaluations, setting internal career goals for team members, recruiting, management of department salaries (in collaboration with HR and Sr. Management team).
  • Inter-network sales, strategy and collaboration. Coordinating with the other team members and locations in the Company 3 Network for cross-selling opportunities, workflow planning, efficiency adjustments etc.
  • Coordination with Finishing Department. Planning efforts with Finishing EP to streamline staffing and sales where there are blended needs / opportunities.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day specific production workflow for the VFX department, ensuring timely, professional and efficient execution of all VFX projects.
  • Review talent and technical resource requirements for all projects: work with Resource Management to facilitate recruitment of Freelance and/or additional staff employees; work with Technology for the timely procurement of technology resources (render projections, workstations, licenses and storage).
  • Manage VFX Set Supervisors schedules to ensure projects are well balanced.
  • Support Production teams to ensure projects stay on target creatively, financially, technically and on schedule.
  • Financial planning and forecasting. Working with Finance to project monthly and quarterly technology needs. Identifying key technology / CapEx needs for yearly requests
  • You will be accountable for innovation which includes pursuing and managing relationships with client groups, strategic vendors, as well as implementing new processes, technologies, and workflows.
  • You will manage the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and other financial documents and provide information and justifications for the budgetary review and approval process; this includes financial responsibilities for both capital and operational budgeting.
  • You will interface with sister studios such as but not limited to Powerhouse, Pune, Stereo D etc. and insure they are prepared to help Studio project needs and liaison with project producers that they are forecasting and sending requests and needs in timely consistent manner to the studios.
  • You will interface with engineers to address and resolve technical issues in an expedient manner for project and studio needs on a daily basis.
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues that arise during daily operations regarding processes, staff and resources. Includes planning, budgeting, mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Mentor producers and train new team members.
  • Oversee bay and product upgrades and communicate rollout schedule to team alongside Engineering and Finishing Dept.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and decision-making skills while maintaining excellent staff relations and a healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Individually follow up with all staff and freelance producers that project bids, schedules, gantts, and show wrap materials are all executed and organized in uniform fashion.
  • Generate and archive running list of projects in both studios so bidding EP’s have a robust library of information to cultivate from when building reels and determining resources for new potential projects.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • You have previous experience within the post production industry, with supervisory experience.
  • You have strong planning and organizational skills, highly analytic and strategic capacity towards achieving short and long term organizational goals.
  • You must be proficient with Post Production technology solutions, media centric file based workflows, Windows and MAC operating systems, as well as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other similar software.
  • You have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, build consensus, and positively motivate staff and team members.
  • You have outstanding verbal, written communication, presentation, and documentation skills required.
  • You have the ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines under pressure.
