I. Job Summary

Directs the development of the business development strategic plans consistent with established corporate strategic plans, and ensures their proper execution. This business development position is responsible for the development of biosolids management solutions by employing both traditional and next generation organics processing technologies. Supports the sales efforts of WM’s sales organizations through the development of new biosolids processing facilities.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other ancillary duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and implements business development operating plan, consistent with the accomplishment of long range established objectives which will enhance operating unit effectiveness and delineate responsibilities and authority.

  • Manages the research and analysis of business opportunities, assessing potential markets and developing projects for use in new development initiatives. Track and document WWTP market information, including volumes, pricing, current contract terms, bid and RFP activity and results, competitors, and market trends.

  • Evaluates projects through financial feasibility studies, market research and planning. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to complete initial financial and technical feasibility for prospective biosolids facilities.

  • Fosters and builds partnerships and relationships with Biosolids management companies and consultants to source volume, develop facilities and expand market share. Identifies businesses that may be strong acquisitions candidates to expand WM’s biosolids business.

  • Reviews and evaluates the total business development function performance on a continuing basis and establishes proper measures of performance.

  • Develops business development budget in a timely manner, forecasting financial and human resource needs for future time periods.

  • Be an expert and internal resource on biosolids management, including federal and state regulations, processing methods and technologies, and end market utilization.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees. This includes:

Direct supervision of up to five full-time employees.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Marketing, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant experience.

Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)

Preferred 2 years of wastewater industry experience

  • Normal setting for this job is: hybrid in Houston, TX or remote if not in Houston but some field work may be required. Must live and work in the US.

The salary range for this position is $111,500-$169,855. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus
