As a Product Development Scientist you will develop and continuously improve industry leading formulated and absorbent products for Target Owned Brands.
Responsibilities:
New Product Development:
In partnership with Principal Scientists, participate in technical research and development on formulation, materials, and absorbent products.
Help create department level technical strategies for formulation and materials based on business goals.
Develop product specifications for industry leading formulations and materials.
Identify future manufacturing partners in collaboration with sourcing and merchant teams.
Evaluate product samples and communicate quality differences to the cross functional team.
Recommend manufacturing partners and collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure products meet quality and price guidelines.
Identify and resolve testing issues during the development process.
Quality Monitoring and Control:
Maintain a working knowledge of applicable government regulatory requirements, safety protocols and Target performance standards for products across assigned categories.
Understand benchmarks for specified owned brands to continuously evaluate and compare Target products to that of the competition and ensure Target product meets or exceeds the performance of competitors’ product.
Partner with Target Compliance and Quality Teams to develop performance testing protocols.
Create product technical specifications and product quality standards.
Partner with Target teams and vendors to ensure the brand vision is appropriately understood and executed.
Research:
Research and develop innovative product solutions that may include raw materials, constructions, manufacturing processes and technologies.
Attend conferences, trade shows and trainings to remain current on industry material innovation, manufacturing practices, and regulation changes.
About You:
4-year college degree in a science or technical field or equivalent experience. M.S preferred.
3-7 years of relevant industrial experience.
Knowledge of testing, safety and legal requirements for consumer products.
Knowledge of applicable raw materials and their performance and usage.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
Ability to communicate business and technical details across various departments levels.
Exhibits a deep knowledge of product formulation and manufacturing.
Experience working in a large scale global manufacturing or research and development organization preferred.
Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $65,600 to $118,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family. OWNED BRANDS NO HIRE STATES:
This position may be eligible to be virtual based (also known as full-time remote) or could be ‘Flex for your Day’, a hybrid model where the team member has some flexibility to choose how and where they work to maximize their productivity and well-being, based on Target’s needs. Most of Target’s HQ team members work ‘Flex for Your Day’ with a blend of virtual work and onsite at a Target HQ location. Team members work with their leader to determine how the role, team, partners and business determines the flexibility. For team members who work virtual based, they enter into a work arrangement that means the team member works full-time from home or a non-Target location, and do not have a workstation at their assigned HQ location, but may travel to a HQ site up to 4 times a year.
