What We’re Looking For

As an Engineering Manager at Robin, you’ll be responsible for the success of your team. On the project side of things, you’ll run sprints and drive toward “done”. In this role, you’ll balance strategic and tactical thinking to execute against our common goals. You’ll work with product management and make sure that the team understands what they’re working on and why they’re working on it. On the technical side, you’ll contribute to technical decisions and even write code sometimes. On the management side of things you’ll hire great engineers into the team and grow existing engineers. Your team’s success is your success.

We’re Hiring Someone Who Will:

  • Be Tactical
  • Assist your team in creating sound technical designs and approaches
  • Help your team to iterate on their process and deliver frequently
  • Seek to reduce complexity wherever possible
  • Assure product quality and performance
  • Assure proper monitoring of production systems
  • Contribute code where it makes sense
  • Work with customer support to ensure customer needs are being taken care of
  • Utilize recent industry experience to make appropriate operational decisions for your team
  • Innovate within your team or project area
  • Contribute to your team by making your employees more productive and delegate appropriate tasks and projects to individual contributors
  • Be strategic
  • Have a deep understanding into why the work your team is working on is important and how that fits into the company’s business priorities
  • Drive engineering culture internally and with other groups within the company
  • Be transparent about what we’re working on and it’s progress to the rest of the company
  • Partner with peer managers to address cross-functional issues. You may participate in cross-company initiatives
  • Align team goals with the needs of the business, and provide transparency into the decision making process
  • Structure your team and assign work in order to maximize team members’ contributions in the areas of communication, productivity, and innovation

  • Monitor and document the performance of your employees and share timely feedback in 1-on-1’s and team meetings
  • Understand and minimize retention risks
  • Encourage experienced team members to contribute to discussions and empower them to make decisions appropriate to their role
  • Work with guidance from HR and your manager to implement Performance Improvement Plans where appropriate, and act deliberately when employees fail to meet expectations
