Informed by data and in collaboration with the Senior Associate Director for Recruitment Strategy, the Associate Director for Recruitment Strategy, the Executive Director of Admission, and members of IC’s Admission Office and Marketing and Communications group, the Assistant Director will help to develop a holistic and integrated approach to strategically growing enrollment from the identified regional markets and support Ithaca College’s enrollment goals and initiatives. This includes proposing, planning, and executing prospective student recruitment, engagement, and admission strategies; collaborating with IC’s enrollment marketing team to determine effective targeted approaches for the region; assessing effectiveness; and managing the full range of admission responsibilities. The Assistant Director will plan and execute recruitment activities and represent the College, working directly with prospective students and families, school counselors, community-based organization staff, independent educational consultants, transfer counselors, alumni volunteers, and other constituents.

The position will be based in the New Jersey or Pennsylvania region with a primary focus on expanding the College’s visibility and strengthening its market position and enrollment there. In addition, the Assistant Director will conduct application review and selection; perform functional responsibilities as assigned; and work to meet established quantitative and qualitative goals. While the primary focus will be on undergraduate (first-year and transfer) students, there may be some opportunities to assist with targeted graduate student recruitment as well.

SUPERVISION:

This position reports to the Associate Director for Recruitment Strategy and will receive guidance from, and coordinate activities with other staff in the Office of Admission.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Propose strategies for and manage an assigned recruitment region to include planning and implementing a variety of modes of recruitment activities based on review of relevant data, specific market characteristics, and institutional goals and strategies in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.

  • Schedule and participate in appropriate recruitment activities in assigned regions including, but not limited to, in-person and virtual high school visits, fairs, career days, college nights, application workshops, evening receptions and panels, joint travel with other institutions, as well as individual outreach and engagement via Zoom/online appointments, phone, email, and text messaging.
  • Participate in other recruiting activities for the college as assigned. Develop working knowledge of IC’s admission and financial aid processes and of academic programs and student life.
  • Demonstrate and continue to develop a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful college community. Demonstrate inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the college. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  • Review applications of prospective students and recommend appropriate admission decisions; pursue necessary follow-up or support activity for established criteria and goals for admission decisions; complete review in a timely manner.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of assigned review areas. Meet established numerical and qualitative goals and timelines for admission decisions.
  • Establish and maintain personal contact by written correspondence, telephone, email and other communication vehicles with school counselors, community-based organization leaders, independent educational consultants, alumni, parents and others who refer students to the college. Counsel prospective students and parents on the admission process, programs, and opportunities.
  • Working in close contact with appropriate staff from the Office of Philanthropy & Engagement, serve as coordinator of alumni admission volunteers within region. Train alumni volunteers and oversee their activities.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the college’s technology and software platforms/systems including the student information system (Banner), CRM (Slate), virtual engagement platforms (e.g. Zoom, Student Bridge, etc.) and others to leverage for recruitment and admission activities. Document contacts and processes and provide written reports and analysis of specific areas of responsibility.
  • Execute responsibilities in a manner consistent with the strategic and student-centered philosophy of the Admission Office and Ithaca College brand.
  • Be available on the Ithaca College campus for specific events and periods of time including but not limited to on-campus open house programs for prospective and admitted students, application review, and professional development and orientation activities.
  • Establish and maintain a project area of expertise (i.e. managing application review and enrollment in a specialized program/area) with focus to be determined in conjunction with Admission leadership team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3+ years admission or related experience; excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively work in a multicultural and inclusive community; strong skills in analyzing data and trends in recruitment, admission, and enrollment; ability to interact positively with students, parents, faculty, alumni, school counselors, community-based organization staff, and independent educational consultants in a professional manner and in a variety of formats; a commitment to effective collaboration and quality teamwork; demonstrated high level of initiative and motivation; strong informational technology aptitude and skills; willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends in support of regional and local recruiting events; valid driver’s license and proof of insurability; self-motivated and ability to function independently from a remote location are required; previous supervisory experience preferred. Must reside in New Jersey or Eastern Pennsylvania market.

HIRING RANGE: $52,000 – $54,000

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The incumbent will be required to operate a personal computer and associated equipment such as computer printers as well as other office equipment used in day-to-day operations. The incumbent will be required to visit other offices, or work sites on and off campus. The incumbent will be required to travel to assigned regions and attend various recruitment events during and after normal business hours.
