Description

Busek is seeking energetic people to help develop the next generation of space propulsion systems. We are looking for innovators and problem solvers with a background in spacecraft electric propulsion.

At Busek, you may work with a wide variety of in-space propulsion technologies such as Hall effect thrusters, Gridded ion thrusters, Electrospray thrusters, Hollow cathode electron sources, and many more. Your job will evolve depending upon your talents and interests, and the needs of Busek and its customers.

Project managers organize, plan, and execute projects while working within restraints like budgets and schedules. Project managers oversee leading teams, defining goals, communicating with stakeholders, and seeing projects through to closure. Project managers may be engineers or scientists.

The entry level project manager will be expected to contribute technically, performing science and engineering functions, in addition to assuming management responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Writing proposals.
  • Leading small teams.
  • Writing reports.
  • Managing budgets.
  • Overseeing laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Writing test procedures and test reports.
  • Documenting, compiling, analyzing, and presenting test data.
  • Conducting engineering analysis, including modeling and simulation.
  • Formulating technical requirements and work plans.
  • Communicating with customers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a highly relevant field, e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics plus 2 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Interest in space and spacecraft technology.
  • Experience in an electric propulsion lab (university or industry).
  • Knowledge of plasma physics at an introductory level.
  • The ability and willingness to write and present
  • Creative, entrepreneurial, problem-solving mindset.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE OF INTEREST:

  • A Master’s degree or 2 or more years of experience in graduate programs or industry.
  • Experience in the use and commissioning of high vacuum test facilities.
  • Experience working within Government-funded R&D and production environments (e.g., NASA, DARPA, and the DoD).
  • Experience in designing, building, or testing Hall thrusters or hollow cathodes.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3). Learn more about ITAR here.

Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, credit and background checks and drug screens.

Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry loads of 30 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Beneficial to have a prior Department of Defense security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain such clearance.

The project manager is expected to work primarily on-site at Busek’s facilities in Natick MA, which is approximately 15 miles west of Boston. However, Busek’s remote work policy may allow limited work from home (WFH).
